GOLD MINING REtUR’NS The Okarito dredge report for the four weeks ended July 23 is as follows:—Total gold won, 1190 Z 18dwt; total time worked, 376} hours; total non-working time; 199} hours; total yardage treated, 20,901.9, an average of 55.5 cubic yards'an Hour; average value of ground (on basis of gold worth £4 an ounce) ,- 5.5 d a cubic- yard. The secretary of Talisman Dubbo Gold Mines Ltd. (Karangahake) reports that the first re'fufri from 214 tons of low grade ore used for sweetening the mill was £129, gold valued at £7 12s an ounce. The assay value of the mill heads was 5.22dwt gold and of the tails 0.14' dwt., equal to a saving of £406, the larger proportion of which, as is common in new mills, being held up in the mill and processes. For tjie week ended August 19 the Clutha River dredge’ operating at Alexandra worked 136 hours for 2230 z of gold. The Mataki dredge return for the week ended August 21 was 220 z for 125 hours’ work and 7500 cubic yards.
