INTOXICATED DRIVERS
1 FARMER FINED £l5. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, August 22. A fine of £l5 and costs was imposed on Joseph Trcmbath, farmer, Mak’uera, Shannon, by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Palmerston North, this morning for having been intoxicated while in charge of a car on the Foxton-Shannon highway on August 20. The licence of accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was endorsed and cancelled, and he was prohibited from procuring another for 12 months. Charged also with committing a breach of a prohibition order against him, Trembath pleaded guilty and was convicted and fined £2 and costs. He was allowed a week in which to pay both fines. Senior-Sergeant J. Mclntyre, who prosecuted, said Trembath was involved in a motor collision. When the police investigated his condition was such that he was taken to a police station and medically examined. The doctor’s report stated that he was found to be deeply under the influence of alcohol and unfit to be driving or in charge of a car. It was accused’s first appearance before court. PETONE ACCUSED FINED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Hector George Wilmhurst, aged 32, a cooper by trade, was charged at Petone with having been intoxicated while in charge of a motor car. He' was fined £l5 and had his licence can-1 celled until May 32, 1940. |
