JOAN OF ARC
ENGLISH PAGEANT PLAY AT NANCY. Thousands flock ever year in July to Nancy to see a Joan of Arc pageantplay written by an Englishman. Louis N. Parker, well known in England for his pageants and biographical dramas of “Drake,” “Disraeli" and "The Cardinad." In his “Joan ..of Arc" played at Nancy, the author depicts the life of the heroine of France from the visions at Domremy, to the meeting with the Dauphin at Chinon, his crowning as .Charles VII in the cathedral of Rheims, to the last tragic scene on the market place at Rouen. The impersonator of Joan of Arc is nameless, and although everyone in Nancy knows who she is, her wish is respected and her name never mentioned or printed. She plays the part with all the reverence of an inspired actor in a Passion Play. This year’s performances of “Le Lys de France,” as the Jpan of Arc play is called in French, will take place at Nancy on September 4, 11 and 18. Six hundred . performers take part.
