TO THE RESCUE

FIRE FIGHTERS DECEIVED. Fire-fighting has its lighter moments. While a blaze in a South African store was at its height the rumour went round that a child had been trapped in the adjoining furniture store. Donning respirators and goggles, two firemen entered and with electric torches searched among the furniture for the child Suddenly they were startled and puzzled by the voices of a woman and child which reached them from quite near at hand —puzzled because the voices were calm and collected and gave no hint of fear. They dashed forward to rescue the trapped victims before it was too late —and nearly knocked over a radio set which had been left with the switch on. It was the Children’s Hour.
