STABILITY & DEFENCE
FRENCH PREMIER PROMISES STRONG POLICY DEVALUATION RESOLUTELY OPPOSED PROGRAMME OF ENERGETIC MEASURES (Recd This Day, 11.10 a.m.) PARIS, August 18. M Daladier, addressing pressmen, denounced the present gold hoarding, and declared that the government was resolutely opposed to the control of exchange and devaluation of the franc, which, apart from its harmful effect on the life of the nation; would inevitably result in wrecking international solidarity, which was the best guarantee of European peace. M Daladier will shortly broadcast a programme of energetic measures indispensable for the maintenance of the currency 'arid defence of the country.
