ALLEGATIONS BV THE H.S.A. CONGRESSMAN ORGANISATION DENOUNCED. LEAGUE “USED ON BEHALF OF COMMUNISM.” By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. WASHINGTON, August 18. Congressman Noah Mason, of Illinois, made charges today before the House Committee investigating espionage and “un-American activities” that eight high-ranking Federal officials were members of the American League for Peace and Democracy, which, he asserted, was being used on behalf of Communism in the United States. Those charged include the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and the chief of the Forest Service. Some of the accused admitted membership of the organisation and others denied it. But all denied that the organisation was linked with Communism. ■
