WEST SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the West School Committee ’ was held last evening, the chairman. Mr F. Shearer, being in the chair. Advice was received from the Department concerned to the effect that a man had been allotted to the school for general work about the grounds. It was decided to apply to the Wellington Education Board for a subsidy for reference library purposes. The committee complimented the acting-headmaster, Mr V. Welch, on the very fine report of school work received from the inspectors. It was decided to write to the Wellington Education Board asking it to consider the erection of a headmaster’s residence, so that the difficulty in securing a house could be overcome. The acting-headmaster reported the attendance to be: Main School 258; side 101. The attendance showed signs of improvement and it would appear, he stated, .that the measles epidemic was now on the wane. The acting-headmaster and the secretary were authorised to obtain supplies of shrubs and plants for the school grounds. Accounts totalling £35 2s 6d were passed.
