POWER BOARD
TRANSFER OF HEAD OFFICE. SECRETARY-MANAGER’S REPORT. In the course of a lengthy report to yesterday’s meeting on a proposal to shift the head office of the Wairarapa Power Board from Carterton to Masterton, the Secretary-Manager, Mr G. Brown, said in part: — “I think it can be definitely stated that both from an administration and engineering point of view, it would be a decided advantage if the head office, the main store, the workshops and the testing department, were all situated together. Further, seeing that half our total population and half our. consumers are situated in the Masterton district, thfit half our revenue is obtained in that district, and that the main part of the new development is taking place in that district, the proper place for the head office, and the other departments mentioned, is Masterton. We have, in fact, been working for many years under a serious disadvantage in having the head office isolated in the way it is, and situated an appreciable distance away from the main centre of our activities. . . . “The fact that the head office is already situated in Carterton, dominates the whole question and although in time the question of moving may become more urgent, the time has not arrived when it can be stated.that it is impossible to carry on under the existing arrangement as long as the board members and the consumers appreciate the difficulties and disadvantages under which we are operating.” The board decided to take no action in the meantime.
