DROUGHT LOSSES
$ SHEEP AND LAMB MORTALITY IN AUSTRALIA. About 25 per cent of the adult sheep in country north of a lino drawn from Barellan through Wyalong to Marsden died during the recent drought, reports Mr A. Pearson, agricultural instructor, New South Wales. The loss of lambs was even more serious, for many farmers lost the entire drop this season; Stock inspectors and other field of-
fleers report that adult sheep mortality varied from 15 to 50 per cent in some districts, and that lamb losses, varied from 25 to 100 per cent. Although much of the country is now covered with a good crop of herbage, losses are still occurring. The State sheep and wool expert, Mr E. A. Elliott, said that the West, which two months ago was bare and brown, is now covered with herbage of all kinds, and feed is plentiful.
