AERO CLUB ACTIVITIES
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. TRAINEES FOR CIVIL RESERVE. At the last monthly meeting of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club, over which Mr E. A. Heyden presided in the absence of the president, Mr A. McDonald, two new pilot members and six ordinary members were elected. The Air Department advised that three candidates had been approved for training in the Civil Reserve of Pilots. A limited number of trainees were still required and applications are to be invited for the vacancies. A load of firewood was donated to the club by Mr Trevor Beetham. It was decided to send him a letter of thanks for his gift. The flying activities in July showed a substantial increase, the total flying time being 69 hours 50 minutes, an increase of 19 hours 35 minutes over the corresponding period of last year. During the month 18 cross-country flights were made. The committee congratulated Miss J. Betts on making her first solo flight on July 12.
