A WORTHY CAUSE

CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING ADDRESS BY LADY GALWAY. APPEAL TO GENERAL PUBLIC. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) WELLINGTON,'This Day. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society was opened today by her Excellency, Lady Galway. Sir Alexander Roberts, vicepresident, presided in. the absence overseas of the president, Mr Justice Smith. Lady Galway spoke of the interesting and encouraging aspect of the work being done and said that one of the main objects was the early discovery and prevention of troubles arising from certain diseases and resulting in crippling. It behoved everyone to give the society the help and support it should have. They had seen the development and encouragement that resulted from the Wilson and Nuffield gifts, but the society needed also the support of the general public, which she was sure would not be behindhand. Sir Alexander Roberts mentioned the Health Ministers’ allocation of £3,000 from the profits of art unions, and Mr F. Campbell, chairman of the executive, eulogised the social work done by Toe H members, Girl Guides and Boy Scouts, in taking patients out. He thought the public was not doing its part in assisting the branches, but was leaning on the Nuffield gift and also, perhaps, on the gift of the Wilson Home. He appealed to the people of New Zealand to appreciate the work being done and that could be done if funds were available.

The report and balance sheet were adopted.
