Buchanan,. after losing Her ball and finding another in an unplayable lie.in a swamp, picked up. Miss Horwell made a shaky start, but thereafter played very steadily, finishing with par figures over the last five holes, Mrs Fullerton-Smith also began nervously and misjudged several short approaches. Nevertheless she was out in 40, two over par.' She played her woods splendidly and at the sixth (265 yards) drove into a greehside bunker. A par three and five at the last two holes were needed for 79, but a visit to a bunker at the short seventeenth cost her five strokes for the hole. Miss Fleming dropped strokes at long par five holes, putting on two sevens. She played steadily for the most part and finished brilliantly with two pars and a birdie. Miss Helean mistimed a number of approaches and took three putts on several greens. Otherwise she was hitting shots well. Mrs Crombie had four sevens on her card. In each case she took two to get out of bunkers and then took three putts. Miss Illston. Miss Hornabrook and Miss Collins all made many visits to bunkers, with which the greens are heavily protected. Mrs Guy Williams; non-playing captain of the Tasman Cup team, declared herself very pleased with the form of the Tasman Cup players, Mrs Fuller-ton-Smith, Miss Helean, Miss Fleming and Miss Horwell, who are likely to pair in that order in the foursomes.
