GUNS ON ROOFS
WAR MANOEUVRES & TALK IN GERMANY PERTURBATION IN BAVARIA ROAD-BUILDING ALONG • CZECH FRONTIER BERLIN, August 17. The closing of the roof garden cafes on which anti-aircraft guns have been installed is giving the public a taste of the realities of the manoeuvres. The city is now. disposed to be calmer, but the growing military activity in the region of Munich is perturbing Bavarians whole sole talk is of war. Troops are doing their utmost to speed up road-building along the Czech frontier. The semi-official view is that the time is inopportune to discuss an air pact with France. BLUFF AND BLUNDER FRENCH VIEW OF GERMAN MANOEUVRES .PARIS, August 17. The “Petit Journal” says -that the German manoeuvres are a sensational bluff and a sensational blunder, and adds that Paris and London will not yield to blackmail under threat of war.
