EXPEDITING BUSINESS
TIME OF HOSPITAL BOARD MEETINGS RECOMMENDATION BY CHAIRMAN “Let me say definitely that I do not wish the board to delegate any of its powers to committees; all I wish to do is to expedite the business so that meetings of the board will terminate at a more reasonable hour than they do now,” stated the chairman. Mr H. H. Mawley, when submitting proposals at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board for shortening the Vme of meetings. "If these suggestions of mine were adopted,” added Mr Mawley, “I am definitely of the opinion that the time of the meeting will be cut down, and that committees will not be taking the work out of the control of the board.” Mr Mawley’s recommendations were approved by the board. Towards the middle of the afternoon, when five members left the meeting. Mr Mawley said: “We cannot have this sort of thing going on. When you come to weigh it all up members are paid by the ratepayers to come here and transact the business. Some members seem to make a practice of arranging private business on board meeting days. That is not the proper thing. You cannot say that we waste time here. I try to get on with the business and at the same time give every member a chance to speak. There are .19 members, and I cannot stop them from talking.” Mr C. T. Richardson: “That is a pity.” . Mr D. G. McGregor: “The trouble is that there are too many of us.” The discussion then lapsed.
