Mr J. Hannan, of Matiere. arrived in Masterton yesterday, in order to attend the coursing meeting on Saturday. Mr W. J. Morrell has been reappointed chancellor of the University of Otago. Mr L. D. Ritchie was appointed vice-chancellor. The Hon W. Downie Stewart, Dunedin, will leave Wellington by the Maunganui tomorrow for Sydney, where he will attend the conference of the Royal Institute of Internal Affairs.

The Rev John Gilkison, Lower Hutt, will leave for Sydney by the Maunganui tomorrow, en route to Papua, where he will take up mission work in the service of. the London Missionary Society. Mr R. E. Deiderich, of the Public Trust Office, Wanganui, has received advice of his appointment as Assistant Attorney-General at Fiji. Mr Deilerich was capped for New Zealand university Rugby in 1929-31-33. Sister Vera Hodges was appointed by the Wairarapa Hospital Board yesterday to the position of Sister at the Grey town Hospital, made vacant by the recent appointment of Sister Ockenden as Matron of the Pahiatua Hospital. After the returning officer, Mr W. I. Deavoll, had announced at yesterday’s meeting of the Wellington Education Board' that the sitting members had all been returned at the recent board elections, Colonel T. W. McDonald moved that Mr W- V. Dyer be reelected chairman for the ensuing two years. The motion was seconded by Mr J. J. Clark and carried unanimously. Mr G. W. Parkyn, headmaster of the Shag Point School, has been appointed lecturer in education at the University of Otago. There were 12 applications for the position. Mr Parkyn holds a master of arts degree with first-class honours in education and second-class I honours in French and English. He also possesses a diploma of education and has completed the greater part of the bachelor of commerce course.
