NEWS OF FORTHCOMING PRODUCTIONS. Lewis Caroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” is to be the subject of a cartoon by Walt Disney, whose “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is doing wonderful business in England and America. M-G-M plans to -make Dickens “Christmas Carol" for Christmas release. Lionel Barrymore will probably play Scrooge. Ruth Chatterton is making a film in England, entitled “The Royal Divorce,” in which she will appear as Josephine to Pierre Blanehar’s Napoleon, A new Will Hay film “Hey Hey U.S.A.” at present under production in England. Edward Everett Horton and Gracie Allen do a dance of spring together in Paramount’s “College Swing.” Jeanette MacDonald is to star in “In Old Orleans,” (the story has a preCi vil War setting), after she finishes her work with Nelson Eddy in “Sweethearts.” Ralph Bellamy is supporting Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in “Carefree,” now under production. M-G-M have acquired the film rights for “Today is Tonight,” the novel completed by Jean Harlow a short time before her death. Mary Maguire, the young Australian actress, Skippy the dog seen as Asta in “The Thin Man” and possibly Warner Baxter will all go to England from Hollywood for Gracie Fields’s next picture. Casting has been completed on David O. Selznick’s “The Young in Heart,” and the film is rapidly nearing completion. Janet Gaynor, Douglas Fairbanks, Junr., and Paulette Goddard are starred with Roland Young and Billie Burke in the supporting cast. New film sensation is Richard Greene, the handsome young Englishman who appears in “Four Men and a Prayer.” Six months ago Greene was completely unheard of except in the provinces of England where he toured with repertory companies.

Two famous Australian characters. Dad and Dave whose exploits in “On Our Selection” started the Cinesound Company in the film-making industry, are again the subject of a picture. Now almost completed it is entitled “Dad and Dave pome to Town.”
