TRAPPERS URGE FURTHER LIBERATIONS Proposals for the further liberation of opossums in the bush, and for closer ranging and control of trapping and selling skins were raised at last night’s meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society council. A sub-committee of two was appointed to confer with the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon W. E. Parry, on the question. A letter received by the council stated that the opossum trappers of the Manawatu wished to co-operate with the society. It was suggested that the Minister be approached about the liberation of opossums in all large bush areas. It was suggested also that more rangers should be provided in the bush during the three months preceding the season, that closer regulations should be made to control the sale of cyanide poison, and various other conditions imposed. If these were agreed to. the trappers were prepared to pay £5 for a licence, the extra £3 to go to the society, and it was sugesied that the society should receive a royalty of 3d a skin. Dr G. F. V. Anson and Mr A. J. Seed were appointed a sub-committee to deal with the matter.
