MASTERTON SALE DALGETY & CO., LTD. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their weekly Masterton sale held yesterday as follows: —A good yarding of all classes of sheep came forward and attracted a large and representative attendance. Feilding buyers were operating. Store sheep showed a sharp rise in values and , any good hoggets were in demand, making prices at least 2s to 3s per head in advance of those ruling last week. One line pf woolly w.f. wether hoggets, after ' 'spirited competition, made 21s. The fat sheep yarded were of medium quality, and prices in this section showed no improvement. The majority of the fats yarded changed hands on a par with the values recorded last week. A 7-year hack and harness mare, offered on account of Mr J. Griffiths, attracted considerable attention and made £26 10s; showing that there is still a strong demand for a good horse. We report a total clearance as follows:—Fat- ewes (medium) 15s, 15s 7d, 16s Id to 16s 7d; forward condition ewes 12s, 12s 7d to 13s; good woolly w.f. wether hoggets 20s, 20s Id to 21s; medium do, 17s, 17s 3d to 17s
7d; medium 2-th wethers 21s 9d; medium woolly w.f. ewe hoggets 22s 7d; small cull do 12s; 1 7-year hack and harness mare £26 10s. F.C.D. COMPANY, LTD. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report: We offered good entries of sheep and cattle. Some Manawatu buyers were present and were keen competitors for good hoggets. Prices for good w.f.w. hoggets advanced about 2s per head. There was little alteration in the fat sheep market. Following are some of our realisations: —Fat wethers 25s to 275; b.f. two-tooths 225; fat b.f. lambs 18s’ 9d to 20s; fat ewes 16s to 16s 6d; unfinished 9s to 12s; w.f.w. hoggets 18s 9d; b.f. hoggets 15s 9d; springing cows £3 17s 6d to £5 7s 6d; store Jersey cows £3 ss; light vealers £2 Is; light porkers 38s to 41s; weaner pigs 15s to 225. WRIGHT, STEPHENSON & CO., LTD. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—We held our weekly sale at Masterton yesterday, when a fair entry of stock was submitted to a good attendance. Fats did not attract much attention-and there was practically no difference .in ruling prices. Store hoggets, however, showed a sharp rise under strong competition. Breeding ewes were slightly firmer. Following are the prices: Fat ewes 15s to 17s; fat hoggets 18s to 225; fat 2-th b.f. 21s 9d; w. wether hoggets 19s 8d to 21s; medium hoggets 14s to 15s 6d; ewes r.w. ram 19s; store 4-th wethers 22s 7d; spring heifers £4 10s; store cows £2 16s to’ £3 ss.
N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: —We held our usual weekly sale yesterday, when we had a fair yarding of sheep and cattle and a good one of pigs. We had a total clearance at auction, fat sheep just maintaining late rates while store sheep met'with a keen market at improved prices. Cattle also sold at late rates and pigs sold particularly well. The following were the prices:— Fat sheep: Fat ewes 14s 6d to 16s; fat wethers 26s 9d; light do 23s lOd; fat hoggets 21s. Store sheep: Woolly wether hoggets 18s 4d to 19s 6d; small do 14s 6d to 15s Id; woolly ewe hoggets 24s Id; 2-th wethers 225. Cattle: Fat 2-yr Jersey heifer £4; forward Jersey cows £2 15s, £3 to £3 2s; vealers £3 6s to £3 ss; yearling Jersey bulls £2 5s to £2 7s 6d. Pigs: Slips 24s 6d to 28s; good wean*ers 20s 6d, 21s, ’22s to 23s 6d; small weaners 14s to 17s.
