GREYTOWN
BOWLING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Bowling Club’s annual meeting was held in the Working Men’s Club last evening. Mr N. McLeod (president) presided over a good attendance of members. The members stood in silence out of respect to the memory of the late Mr G. Carter and Mr Burns. The resignation of Mr H. C. Barcham (owing to failing eye sight), and Mr W. Gates, were received. A letter was received from Mr W. W. Lonsdale (Stratford), expressing his appreciation of the courtesy extended to him, and forwarding a spring bowl measure for competition. It was resolved that Mr Barcham’s resignation be left to the incoming committee to deal with. The resignation of Mr W. J. Gates was accepted with regret. Members expressed their appreciation of the services rendered to the club by Mr Gates.
In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Mr McLeod congratulated the club on its steady progress. The standard of bowling had been very high and a good spirit had prevailed. The club at the present time held all the trophies of the Wairarapa Centre with the exception of the Booth Cup. Mr R. Page, from Levuka, Fiji, was elected a new mehiber. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr W. H. Day; president, Mr- F. Dennes; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Burns and J. F. Wallis; committee, Messrs P. Kenning, W. Kilgour, H. B. Wallace, L. Curtis and V. Vile; treasurer, Mr N. McLeod; green committee, Messrs H.‘ J. Nightingale, P. Kenning, T. Connolly; delegates, Messrs F. Dennes, N. McLeod, Kilgour; selection committee, Mr P. Kenning; auditor, Mr J. Kiernan; match committee, Messrs Dennes, Kilgour, Burns; secretary, Mr H. J. Nightingale (re-elect-ed). The subscription was fixed at the same amount as last year. Pairs and rink competitions are to be played under the same conditions as last year. ,The singles and pairs will be played on the two life system, with a time limit for each round. The opening day of the season was left to the committee to decide. i 7 A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Carter for his services as green care-, taker. It was decided that the delegates to the Centre meeting have a free hand. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring officers, the Press and the Workingmen’s Club. During a discussion on work at the bowling green it was pointed out that plans for this season would largely depend on what labour was available. At the present time it was practically impossible to get a man to work on the green. The annual report stated: In submitting the report for the season 1937-38, the committee wish to compliment the club on a most successful season, both financially and on the bowling success it had achieved. The liabilities had been decreased by £22 10s, and membership fees increased by £4. Several weekend tournaments have been held and enjoyed by all. Messrs W. Kilgour, F. Dennes, W. Higginson, R. G. Vile (skip) won the New Year tournament. Messrs G. Haigh, V. Vile, H. J. Nightingale, N. McLeod (skip) won the Masterton tournament. Mr R. G. Vile holds the Pragnell Cup; Messrs Connolly and H. G. Carter hold the Grady Medals; Messrs F. Dennes, H. G. Carter, N. McLeod, W. Higginson (skip) hold the Wairarapa champion fours, and Mr N. S. McLeod won the singles championship of the Wairarapa. GREYTOWN DAIRY FACTORY. The supply of milk to. the Greytown Dairy Factory is increasing rapidly. Three vats are now being operated and cheese-making is in full swing.
