YANGTSE FIGHTING
CHINESE GAINS ON SOUTH BANK WAR MATERIALS CAPTURED. RAID MADE ON AERODROME AT SHANGHAI. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Chinese Consul has received the following cablegram from Hankow: — “We recaptured Kooho and Nanshiapo, south of Kiukiang. The enemy retired northward, abandoning a large quantity of war materials. Hills in the vicinity of Kongko changed hands many times and severe fighting is still proceeding for their possession. On August 13, Chinese mobile units' entered the Japanese aerodrome at Hongkew, Shanghai, killed a small number of enemy troops and hoisted the national flag of China. Then they retired leisurely. The Chinese have also recaptured a number of villages between Fuyang and Hangchow.”
