MUNICIPAL LIBRARY

APPOINTMENT OF ASSISTANT OPPOSED BY MAYOR The Masterton Borough Council decided at its meeting last night to engage an assistant to work in the Municipal Library. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, opposed the motion on the grounds that the assistant would be trained under unfavourable cimcurstances. Councillor G. D. Wilson congratulated the Library Committee on the steady progress being made. The chairman of the committee, Councillor W. Kemp, maintained that an assistant was required to give the required service to the public. He urged that the committee be given a chance to work in harmony this year, and that if necessary the committee be criticised, but not the librarian.
