DIVISION WIPED OUT

The Government General Staff announces that it wiped out General Franco’s Fourth Navarre Division, south of Gandesa, after four days’ fighting. RAIDS ON VALENCIA BRITISH WIRELESS OPERATOR KILLED (British Official Wireless.) (Recd This Day, 10.25 a.m.) RUGBY, August 16. According to information received in official quarters in London, during five raids on Valencia yesterday by insurgent bombers, three British ships which were in harbour were all undamaged, but the wireless operator of the Hillfern was killed while on a jetty.
MADRID SHAKEN
LAND-MINE EXPLODED UNDER REBELS. CASUALTIES IN UNIVERSITY CITY. (Reed This Day, 9.30 a.m.) MADRID, August 16. The city was shaken as if by an earthquake by the explosion of a Republican land-mine under rebel positions in the University City. There were many casualties.
