NEW SECRET ORDER

TO ENCOURAGE CONSUMPTION OF APPLES. To encourage the eating of apples and the drinking of cider several hundred Normandy apple-growers have founded a fraternity known as the “Secret Order of the Apple.” The new secret society has many signs and passwords, and knights of the apple are to be named at secret sessions with impressive ritual, wherein the apple episode of the Garden of Eden will be evoked. But Eve, instead of being blamed, will be praised for her part in the business. Every Knight of the Apple will have to promise to be true to Normandy and Normandy products, particularly apples and cider. During the summer a number of apple and cider fairs will be organised in different parts of Normandy where beneath the trees in the green meadows and orchards apples will be eaten and cider drunk to the honour of apples and Normandy.
