EMPIRE AIR MAIL
SOUVENIR FORWARDED TO HON. F. JONES. LETTER FROM MAJOR TRYON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A valuable stamp of the first “all-up” Empire air mail has been presented to the Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) by the Postmaster-General of Great Britain, Major Tryon. It takes the form of the original stamp used in the despatch of the mail from Southampton on July 28. In a letter accompanying the souvenir, Major Tryon expresses pleasure at collaborating with New Zealand in an extension of the' air mail service and adds: “I am happy to be able now to send yoti greetings by jneans of a service which owes so much to your work. It is no small achievement tha: all first-class mail for New Zealand is now airborne throughout its journey to Australia.’*
Major Tryon also expresses confidence that it will not be long before the air mail scheme will bridge the Tasman. Mr Jones also received a letter from the British Secretary for Air (Sir Kingsley Wood) extending best wishes for the successful operation of the scheme.
