STATE THEATRE
“HITTING A NEW HIGH.” Hailed as the most brilliant and delightful picture in her screen career, .Lily Pons’ new film- will be “Hitting a Nbw High,” shown tonight at the State Theatre with Jack Oakie co-starred, and a novel plot. Seven songs, ranging from operatic arias through classic “novelty” tunes to sparkling modern numbers, are sung' by Miss Pons, who is supported by such favourites as Eric Blore, Edward Everett Horton, Jqhn Howard, Eduardo Ciannelli and Luis Alberni. Altogether, “Hitting a New High” is rated as the funniest as well as the most melodic of the famous soprano’s screen vehicles. The plot deals with the romance between Miss Pons and Howard, and with the ingenious scheme through which Oakie seeks to have her “discovered” by liis publicityseeking employer, Horton. These two themes are interwoven and lead to surprising results. Screening in conjunction with “Hitting a New High” is a Walt Disney Mickey Mouse coloured cartoon, “Self Control.” .
