PROTEST BY SOVIET
NEW FRONTIER VIOLATION ALLEGED IN CHANGKUFENG SECTOR. JAPANESE AMBASSADOR’S DISCLAIMER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. LONDON, Aug. 15. The Moscow correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that M. Litvinov, Soviet Foreign Minister, summoned Mr Shigemitsu, Japanese Ambassador in Moscow, and protested against a violation of the Changkufeng sector of the frontier by the Japanese last Saturday, details of which have not been disclosed. Mr Shigemitsu rejected the protest, disclaiming any knowledge of the incident. On the contrary, his information was that the frontier was quiet, and he expressed astonishment that the incident could have occurred on the same day as the Russian and Japanese representatives agreed on the line under the truce. An official communique issued in Moscow estimates the Soviet casualties during the twelve days’ fighting on the Manchukuo border at 236 killed and 611 wounded.
