HOUSEHOLD HINTS
If your fingers are fruit-stained, soap your hands thoroughly before you let any water touch them. If you wet them first, you will find it difficult toremove stains. To boil milk without burning, before putting milk in the saucepan, boil a tablespoonful of water rapidly for a few’ minutes. Then pour out the water and put in the milk. It will never burn. Before cleaning copper kettles, fill them with boiling water and let them stand a while. The copper will polish more quickly, and the lustre will remain longer than otherwise. Mustard mixed with a small proportion of cornflour will keep moist longer and be much milder. Use a mixture of equal parts of putty and salt for filling small holes or cracks. It dries hard, and will not crumble.
