OBITUARY

MRS MARY ALICE HARE. The death took place on August 4 at the residence of her daughter, Mrs A. Kilmister, Hunterville, of a very old and respected resident of Omata and formerly of Greytown, Mrs Mary Alice Hare, relict of the late Charles John Hare, who predeceased her in 1924. Mrs Hare was a daughter of the late Robert Robinson, Dunmanway, County Cork, Ireland. She arrived in New Zealand al the age of 17 years in the sailing ship Zealandia in 1872, taking over 14 weeks to make the voyage. She settled at Dunedin with her sister, the late Mrs R. Kingston, and lived there until her marriage in 1882. After her marriage she lived at Masterton and later at Greytown, where she was a keen supporter of the Anglican Church. In 1911 she moved to Taranaki with her husband and took up farming at Omata. Mrs Hare was predeceased by her son, Robert at Wangahui in 1918 and her daughter, Mrs R. G. Russell,, Pownall Street, Masterton, in 1932. The surviving members of the family are Mrs A. Kilmister, Hunterville, Mrs Harold Lobb, Westown, New Plymouth. and Mr L. C. Hare, Omata. The funeral took place on Saturday at Te Henui cemetery after a short service at St Mary’s Church, the service being conducted by Archdeacon G. H. Gavin. There were many floral emblems.
