Playing Field Subsidies. An indication of how the recent heavy rain has affected Nelson Park, Hastings, was given during the week, when the field was being prepared for Saturday’s Rugby matches. Workmen noticed a slight subsidence, and when it was examined and tested by putting weight on it the surface gave way and dropped to a depth of about four feet. This was filled up, but during the progress of a match on Saturday a subsidence took place in another portion of the ground, and play was held up until it was filled in with fresh earth.

Musical Director’s Record. Looking at the souvenir programme published by the Masterton Amateurs for their “Cingalee” season it is interesting to note that the musical director, Mr R. J. Young, first became associated with the society in 1912, 26 years ago. In that year, “H.M.S. Pinafore” was produced. While Mr Young has not been conductor continuously, he has acted during the period for twelve seasons, surely a fairly good record. His first run was for eight operas, and now he completes another four. Price of Petrol Reduced.
A reduction in the price of motor spirit of £d a gallon as from today was announced on Saturday by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon D. G.
