COMMUNISM AND CAPITALISM. Man, the latest arrival upon earth, is feeling the attraction of the same lure that once seduced the bees and the ants into their age-long slavery. The beehive spirit of Communism and the anthill spirit of Fascism have already ensnared part of the human race, and in the mounting fervour of their, contending ideologies threaten democratic systems with supercession and render imminent a ruinous war which may set civilisation back by many hundreds of years, writes Mr Francis J. Mott in his book; “Consciousness Creative.” Control of the outer world can never be other than a product of the individual-collective balance, adds Mr Mott. That is to say, it can neither be the result of individual wonder-working nor must it be the mere static result of the collective will operating of its own accord. There must be a proper balance of interests. The whole problem facing the world is to know where to draw the line between the sphere of capitalism and the sphere of communism. Those who believe in only one extreme are as much in an impasse as a scientist who would not admit the existence of both positive and negative electricity, but who tried to study electricity on the assumption that only one form of potential existed.
