FRIENDLY FAREWELL

PRESENTATION TO MR J. W. V. POWELL Members of the staff of the ‘Wairarapa Times-Age” assembled this morning to farewell Mr J. W. V. Powell, advertising manager, who is leaving to take up a position of advertising manager to the “Hawke’s Bay Daily Mail.” The general manager, Mr D. M. Graham, referred to the excellent service Mr Powell had given during his association with the “Wairarapa Daily Times,” and latterly with the “Wairarapa Times-Age.” Mr Graham said Mr Powell had earned the respect of the community, and of the staff, and he was sure all those present extended to him their best wishes for the future. In appreciation of his services, Mr Graham handed Mr Powell a cheque from the Daily Times” company, and a second cheque from the “Wairarapa TimesAge” company, while on behalf of the staff of the latter company he handed him a barometer as a mark of esteem and expressed the hope that Mr Powell’s career would always be “set fair.” The editor, Mr W. A. Michael, endorsed Mr Graham’s remarks and several others added their tribute. Mr Powell suitably replied and acknowledged the gifts. The proceedings concluded with three lusty cheers for Mr Powell, Mrs Powell and their daughter.
