SOUTHDOWN STUD SHEEP
IMPORTED FROM ENGLAND BY WAIRARAPA BREEDERS An importation of interest to Southdown Sheep breeders throughout the Dominion was the arrival last week in Wellington of three pedigree Southdown ewes imported from England through the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited on behalf of three leading breeders. The animals imported were bred by J. Pierpont Morgan of Wall Hall, Aldenham, Watford, Herts, and were purchased by Messrs G. N. McLeod of Martinborough; Wm Rayner of Masterton and J. H. Slack of Bunnythorpe, who secured one ewe each. Prominent Southdown breeders who inspected the animals in England describe them as outstanding representatives of the breed which will be a valuable acquisition to any stud. Probably the most outstanding feature of these ewes is their excellent handling qualities together with their low set, deep chested bodies indicating both type and constitution. All three sheep are prizewinners, having won first prize as a pen of three at the Royal, Oxfordshire, and_ Hertfordshire County Shows in England last year.
