FRIESIAN BULL

PURCHASED FOR TASMANIA. It is some years now since Friesian breeders in Tasmania have drawn on the Dominion for fresh blood. Some years ago several considerable shipments of this noted breed of dairy cattle were made from the South Island to Tasmania and several sires sent over from here won championship honours at successive Royal Shows there. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., have just completed the selection and shipment of another outstanding young Friesian bull for a well-known Tasmanian breeder in Mr John French, of the Oaks. This bull, Turepo Ranger Kewpie was bred by the Wairarapa breeder, Mr C. Knutson. Although just a year old this month, he is a very well grown bull and is particularly attractive in his general appearance. He is a son of Totara Ranger Ltd, a dual North Island and also Royal Champion bull whose record in the show-ring now totals up to no less than 27 championships. Totara Ranger Lad is bred from both champion producers as well as show cattle, his sire being Dominion Forest Ranger whose dam won the 100-guinea Cup at the N.Z. Royal in 1937. His own dam, Totara C.R. Lass, produced 584.631 b. fat as a three-year-old and is by the same sire as the world’s record producer, Totara C.R. Buttercup, with records up to 10791 b. fat.
