BOXING
# WIN FOR AITKEN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., August 11. Scoring mainly by standing off his opponent and waiting for opportunities to punch to the body, Billy Aitken (Wellington), 9.5, beat Young Gildo (Honolulu), 9.1 j, on points, at Palmerston North tonight, A capacity house watched a professional bout for £lOO go the entire 12 rounds and was well satisfied with the display of both boxers. For most of the match Aitken appeared to be fairly cautious, but he opcne'd his style at the fifth and subsequent rounds. Gildo was the clever in-fighter, but found Aitken’s longer reach rather worrying and difficult to penetrate at times. In the last three rounds he fought doggedly, but was set back by his opponent’s lefts and rights to the body. Both boxers received an ovation from the crowd.
