PLUNKET SOCIETY

MEETING OF MASTERTON BRANCH. MISS SAMSON’S COMING VISIT. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Branch of the Plunket Society was held yesterday. There were present Mesdames J. Caselberg (in the chair), S. L. P. Free, D. Donald, R. C. Drummond, Sortain Smith, J. C. Brood, A. S. Stewart, T. F. Watson, A. H. Falloon, T. Jordan, C. Ericson, W. A. Michael, J. V. Gordon and R. Miller (Kopuaranga). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. F. Beetham, H. H. Daniell, N. Irwin, J. M. Coradine, T. W. Wardell and H. Morrison (Tinui).

It was announced by the president that the speaker for the annual meeting of the branch to be held on Wednesday, August 24, at 2.30 p.m., would be Miss Samson, who is in charge of the nursing staff of the Wellington branch. Miss Samson is widely experienced in all aspects of Plunket work and recently spent twelve months overseas, gaining further insight into public health services in other countries. The committee hope that all mothers will make an effort to come and benefit by the information Miss Samson has to give. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, will preside. A letter was received from the Postmaster enclosing an anonymous donation of 5s to the Masterton branch. This sum, having been found at the Post Office, was donated by the finder to the branch funds. A circular was received from the Dominion president in connection with the artificial feeding of infants. Thanks for the donation of infants’ clothing were passed to the girls of the Whatman Home, Mrs Wilton, Mrs T. Jordan for material and Mrs J. Reynolds (aged 100) for again kindly making up garments. — The nurse reported: Masterton, visits to office, adults 318, babies 283, older children 62; telephone, 105; total 788. Visits to home, new cases 61; old cases 222; total 283. New cases for month, town and country 19. Outstations: Mauriceville East and West, Hastwell. Mangamahoe, Kopuaranga, 2 visits each; visits to homes, 19; Tinui, Annedale, Mangapakeha, Blairlogie, Homewood, Whareama and Langdale, one visit each; new case, one, old cases, 16. Pre-natal section: Total visits 26. Car mileage 929.
