“HELLO, POPEYE”

Tomorrow morning at 8.30 o’clock at Perry’s the box plans will be opened for the big Hollywood Revue “Hello Popeye,” which is to be presented under the direction of J. C. Williamson Theatres by Frank Neil’s splendid aggregation of international artists, headed by the world famous Billy Costello, whose voice is the voice, we hear on the Popeye the Sailorman cartoons, at the Regent Theatre on Tuesday afternoon next beginning at 3.30 and on Tuesday night next commencing at 8 o’clock. It is only once in a generation that New Zealanders are given an opportunity to witness in person a noted screen artist, so it is not surprising to learn that unusual interest has been infused in the appearance here of Billy Costello whose outstanding talents are, it is said, presented to even greater advantage on the stage than they are on the screen. Frank Neil's revue is, however, not a “one man” show. Associated with Mr Costello is the best all round combination of revue and variety artists that has ever toured the Dominion. Sid Page comes with a reputation, that of being one of New York’s best comedians. Then there is Joey Porter, Peggy Earle (comedienne), Ruth Rudie (eccentric dancer), the Kermonde Brothers (acrobats), Billy Rayes (juggling) and others. Some of the latest ballet creations will be exploited by Frank Neil’s Beauty Ballet.
