MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville Women's Institute was held in the hall yesterday when Mrs H. Freeman presided over a fair, attendance. The president referred to the death of Mrs Crewe, who had performed good work for the Institute. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. The treasurer read the report on the recent concert and dance, and it was decided to hand the profit over to the Mauriceville West Hall Committee. Miss R. Mortensen gave a most interesting report on the conference held in Wellington. The competition for the afternoon was won by Mrs Freeman ’ with Mrs Neilsen second. The prize for the best bloom-went to Mrs Forsberg with Mrs Pain second. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs F. Pain and Miss A. McGovern. LAMBING SEASON. ' Lambing has commenced on many farms in the district, and a spell of fine weather is earnestly hoped for by farmers. BAD FOOTPATHS. ; The footpath in the village is in a very bad s.tate, and residents would greatly appreciate attention being given to it by the local body concerned. LABOUR PARTY DANCE. The Mauriceville branch of the Labour Party will hold a dance in the hall on Thursday evening which should be a popular attraction. The music will be supplied by Te Tau’s Orchestra and the arrangements are in the hands of a most capable committee. PERSONAL. Mr K. L. Palmer, of the Mauriceville Dairy Co., is laid aside with an attack of measles.
