HOTEL DESTROYED
EARLY MORNING BLAZE AT KAIAPOI (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Kaikanui Hotel at Kaiapoi was destroyed by fire early this morning. A fierce southerly gale was blowing at the time, and the hotel, which was a wooden building containing about 20 rooms, was quickly demolished. Nothing was saved. The licensee, Mr W. Clark, Mrs Clark and their two young children had to make a hurried escape in night attire. The hotel is owned by Mr J. H. Spence of Christchurch. It is thought that the fire started in the kitchen.
