COMPLETELY AT SEA
TO THE SPIN BOWLERS COLLAPSE OF DURHAM EASY WIN FOR AUSTRALIA By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 9. The Australians had an easy win over Durham —by an innings and 179 runs. The visitors closed their first innings with 5 wickets down for 379. Durham were soon disposed of for 105 in the first innings, and following on made a very poor second innings’ effort, 96. O’Reilly and Fleetwood-Smith bowled exceptionally well, and were at times practically unplayable.
Sent in on a damp wicket as the result of overnight fog, the Durham batsmen were completely at sea to the spin bowlers, Fleetwood-Srriith and O’Reilly, who ended the first innings in 110 minutes. Though the light, which was bad during the first innings, improved by the time Durham followed on, the county fared no better, and were all out in seventy minutes. The only batsman to show any class was the veteran professional Carr, who in the second innings took two succestive sixers from Fleetwood-Smith. The scores are as follow: — AUSTRALIA.
