LONDON BUTTER MARKET CHEESE ADVANCES IN PRICE The London butter market was quiet and steady at the end of last week, according to the cabled report received by the Primary Products Marketing Department. New Zealand finest salted butter was quoted at 122 s to 1235, an advance of Is to 2s on the week. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand, salted, 1225, ex 123 s (121 s a year ago, 119 s); unsalted, not quoted (1225; a year ago, 119 s to 120 s). Australian, salted, 120 s to 121 s (119 s to 120 s); unsalted, 120 s to 121 s (120 s to 121 s). Danish, 105 s, f.0.b.; 125 s to 126 s spot (104 s 6d; 125 s to 1265). Dutch, unsalted, 109 s to 110 s, ex 113 s (110 s to 112 s). 1 ■ Lithuanian, unsalted, 112 s, ex 114 s (113 s 6d). Retail prices are unchanged, New Zealand and Danish at Is 3d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week were 1159 tons. The quantity in store, including 1285 tons ex Mataroa and Rotorua, was 6765 tons, as against 4645 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter last week were 909 tons; the quantity in store' was 4964 tons as against 5463 tons a year ago. The Imperial Economic Committee’s estimate of the stocks of all butter in store was 1,370,097 boxes, as against 957,310 boxes a year ago. The cheese market closed firm. Jfew Zealand showing an advance of Is a cwt on the week. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: New Zealand, white and coloured, 69s 6d to 70s (68s 6d to 695; a year ago, white 73s 6d to 745, coloured 71s). Australian, white, 66s to 67s 6d. (65s 6d to 67s 6d); coloured, 66s to 67s 6d (66s to 675). Canadian, white and coloured, 78s to 80s (78s to 80s); c.i.f., 68s 6d (675). English, finest farmers’ 84s to 86s (84s to 86s); factory cheese, 65s to 65s 6d (65s to 65s 6d). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 14,407 crates. The quantity in store was 67,874 crates, as against 40,451 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese were 3121 boxes. The quantity in store was 81,389 boxes, as against 118,909 boxes a year ago.
