“HELLO POPEYE”

When Mr Billy Costello (the original Popeye the Sailorman) who is to be presented here on Tuesday, August 16 at the Regent Theatre (afternoon at 3.30 and evening at 8 o’clock) by J. C. Williamsons Theatres in Frank Neil’s spectacular Hollywood revue “Hello Popeye,” arrived in Sydney he was met at the railway station by over 20,000 people, including, of course, many thousands of children. On his opening night in Sydney the theatre was taxed to its fullest extent, and the traffic was stopped outside the theatre when he arrived in full regalia and in a decorated motor car. At the close of his specialty act, Mr Costello was called back again and again, and there was another wonderful ovation at the final fall of the curtain. Frank Neil has spared no expense in surrounding Mr Costello with a remarkable aggregation of world famous revue and vaudeville artists, which include Syd. Page and Joey Porter. In their series of sketches and comedy scenes they are assisted by Peggy Earle and Ruth Rudie, dashing comediennes and eccentric dancers. For grace and artistry as ballroom Adagio dancers the Elite Trio are said to be supreme, and the Kermonde Brothers are wonderfully thrilling acrobats. The box plans will be opened at Perry’s on Friday morning next, at 8.30 p.m.
