NAZI ATROCITIES
CONCENTRATION CAMP HORRORS BIBLE STUDENTS TORTURED AND KILLED. DARK AGE BARBARITIES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, August 5. A special correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian” says the concentration camp at Buchwald is rivalling that at Dachau for brutality. Most of the 3500 prisoners are Social Democrats and Bible students. The latter are specially persecuted, as they decline to give allegiance except to the Supreme Being. They were placed in barrels of sewerage and asked if they .still believed in Jehovah. In the past yeai- 145 have been killed, beaten to death, or have committed suicide. Prisoners failing, in the guards’ view, to work adequately on the roads or in quarries, are punished with 25 strokes of a cowhide lash while strapped to a trestle. A commandant recently asked for volunteers for a special job. None were forthcoming, whereupon five were taken out and shot, including a former municipal councillor. Similar atrocities are common.
