CHURCH SERVICES

The Rev Herbert Davies, M.A.. of the Canton Villages, is the guest of the Rev John and Mrs Davie. He has just arrived from the scene of the war in Canton villages and should have an interesting story to tell on Sunday morning at 11 o’clock in Knox Church. The beginnings of Christianity in the South Island of New Zealand forms the subject matter to be dealt with on Sunday in the Methodist Church. The Rev Frederick J. Parker is the preacher, and the occasion the preparation for the coming celebrations of the centenary of Methodism in the South. The Anglican Church, through the Rev Samuel Marsden, brought Christianity to the North Island. The honour of bringing the Gospel to the South Island comes to the Methodist Church through the Rev James Watkin. Retiring offertories will be taken up tomorrow to forward the project of a Maori Church to be built at Otakou, near Dunedin, as a memorial of the great occasion. At Kuripuni tomorrow Pastor C. H. Skuse will preach on two subjects helpful to those striving to attain a higher standard of Christianity—“ Lotting God Use His Will in Us,” and “Self Love Hindering God’s Grace."
