WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT OPAKI. The monthly meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held on Thursday last when Mrs Wingate presided over a fair attendance of members. Before commencing business members stood for a few moments in silence as a mark of respect to the late president of the Bush-Wairarapa Federation, Mrs J. D. C. Crewe. Mrs Malmo gave a very interesting report on the Dominion Federation Conference held in Wellington recently. The "Golden Thread” was given by Miss Robinson, who read an article on "Kitchens and Service in the Homes of. the Nobility in Years Gone By,” which was listened to with keen interest. As there was no demonstration, Mrs Wingate arranged a competition which was enjoyed by all, the winners being Mrs Jaine and Mrs Malmo. The monthly competition resulted as follows: —Largest 6 eggs: Mrs Cooper, 1; Mrs Wingate, 2; Mrs Miller, 3. Butter sponge: Mesdames Harris, 1; Rayner, 2; Cooper, 3. Members have decided to hold a dance on August 23 in Mrs Cooper's barn. The hostesses were Mesdames Harris and Cooper.
