YOUNG FARMERS

f MEETING OF MASTERTON CLUB. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Young Farmers’ Club was held on Wednesday night, there being a fair attendance of members. Arrangements for the annual dance on August 25 were reported to be well in hand. Mr C. Mackay was appointed club reporter. The main speaker for the evening was Mr Davey, who gave an interesting address on “Homestead Orchards.” Mr Davey suggested that a quarter acre was sufficient for the average farmer’s orchard. In the course of his address, he dealt with the planting of trees, pruning and spraying for the prevention of disease and pests. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Davey for his address. Two short talks were given by Messrs J. S. Mackay and C. Mackay, both members of the Young Farmers’ party which recently toured the North Island. Mr ,T. S. Mackay dealt with the trip as far as Auckland, and Mr C. Mackay covered the remainder of the journey. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speakers.
