CATHEDRAL FUND
NEARLY SIXTY THOUSAND IN SIGHT (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. Since the Wellington diocese centenary appeals for funds to build a cathedral and to provide for the Bishop’: Fighting Fund was officially launched at a mass meeting held in the Town Hall, Wellington, on July 19, further donations and promises of donations .to the cathedral fund actually received at the Wellington office of the Centenary Appeal Committee amount to nearly
£7OOO. ■fhe sum does not include any of the money raised in other parts of the diocese so far as a result of the tour upon which the Bishop of Wellington, the Rt Rev H. St Barbe Holland, is at present engaged. It was stated in answer to inquiries made yesterday that the result of the special appeals launched by citizen’s committees in Wellington. Palmerston North, and Masterton had yet to come to hand. The total received or promised since the appeal was launched now amounts to £23,332 18s, and of this sum the actual cash so far received totals £4150 ss.
As announced by the bishop last month, there is also available the sum of £27,000 from the old cathedral fund, together "with a further sum of £6143 in the Diocesan Centennial Fund. Thus the total amount now in sight for the cathedral, apart from contributions so far received as a result of the bishop’s tour and the citizen’s appeal is £56,475 18s, or more than one-quarter of the sum of £200,000 aimed at for the new building.
