STATE LOTTERY
NEW SOUTH WALES PROFIT. The New South Wales Minister of Health, Mr H. P. FitzSimons, announces that the State lottery showed a record net profit of £845,000 for the financial year, which ended on June 30. The whole of that money had been paid to the Hospitals Commission, and it had been used entirely for the maintenance of public hospitals, but had not been nearly sufficient to meet the needs of hospitals. Mr FitzSimons said that the Hospitals Commision had received £1,016,000 from the Treasury during the financial year, and approximately £400,000 more had been spent during the same period on new buildings and equipment, and an additional £BOO,OOO had to be found during the financial year to maintain State hospitals and mental hospitals. “Thus,” said Mr FitzSimons, “the total expenditure for maintenance, building and the equipment of all classes of hospitals for the year just closed has been approximately £3,061,000, to which the State lottery has contributed £845,000.”
