KNOX SUNDAY SCHOOL
NEW BUILDING COMMENCED.
A start has been made with the erection of a new block of Presbyterian Church buildings in Masterton to replace the Knox Sunday School building destroyed by fire in March last. Immediately after the fire plans were prepared and a call was made for funds to build a new block. The sum of £6OOO was subscribed which, together with • insurance of £l5OO on the old building, made up a total of £7500, only £2OOO short of the total cost of the new block. > The building which will not be completed for at least 10 months, will be one of the most modern of its kind in New Zealand. It will consist of doublestorey and single-storey sections, and will be constructed throughout of reinforced concrete and brick veneer, embodying the most up-to-date earth-quake-resisting devices. An outstanding feature of the new building will be a large assembly hall, 50ft. by 45ft., and containing a 17ft. stage, with dressingrooms at the rear. The Sunday school will be in two departments. The intermediate section will contain 13 classrooms, three Bible class rooms, and a library. An assembly hall, 34ft. 6in. by 20ft., apd seven classrooms are included in the junior school. A modern feature is a projecting room for the screening of motion pictures. The entire building will be centrally heated by a new electric and gas system. The primary department, which was gutted by "the fire, has been reconditioned at a cost of £6OB.
