UNSATISFACTORY GROUND INDIANS DEFINITE STAND (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, August 4. A definite stand against playing on unsatisfactory grounds has been taken by the Manavadar Indian hockey team, which already has five out of 16 players on the injured list. Three are suffering from severely strained muscles. „ The decision follows what is described as “a terrible experience” at Wairoa on Tuesday. The manager of the- team, Professor Jagan Nath, said that the New Zealand Hockey Association had given him authority to cancel any match if the ground was unplayable. ■ “If any ground is not in a fit condition,” he said, “we will not field a team. We don’t intend to take any more risks. It is unfair to ask the .players to turn out in conditions such as existed at Wairoa.”
Because of the state of the ground and heavy rain the match between the Indian hockey team and Poverty Bay this afternoon was abandoned.
