ACTIVE TRADING IN LONDON EFFECT OF CONTINENTAL ' RUMOURS (Recd This Day, 12.55 p.m.) RUGBY. Aueust 3. A large turnover of gold on the bullion market in recent days, and the activity of the foreign exchange market are commented upon by city writers in the evening newspapers. The sum of £2.977.000, which was , disposed of this morning, : is the largest amount changing hands on a single day since June, 1937. Writers attribute these movements to the variety of rumours in circulation on the Continent.
